SCADA Applications & Installations:
City of Corcoran Replaces Closed SCADA System
The City of Corcoran experienced the drawbacks of a proprietary SCADA system first-hand last year when they decided to expand their existing system. With reasonable additional up-front costs, they found they could replace their equipment with an open-architecture system, making future expansions and modifications easier and more affordable.
Turnupseed Electric Service in Tulare, California installed Control Microsystems' SCADAPack intelligent field controllers and Lookout Human/Machine Interface (HMI) software by National Instruments. Together, these products communicate over an MAS (Multiple Address System) radio network with 9 remote wells, a chlorination station, and a pressure booster station at the Corcoran Prison.
Steve Siebuhr and Ken Wales of Turnupseed Electric ran the project and commented on the ease of integration and solid functionality of the system. They found that the SCADAPacks, with their on-board I/O and flexible communications capabilities, provide many tools to facilitate communication over a wide variety of media. They also found that Lookout, with its powerful and easy-to-configure libraries of objects, lives up to its guarantee to be the easiest to use HMI on the market.
