Exxon Company USA has found a solution to their dwindling supply of spare wires and increasing demand for information by using the SmartWIRE end-to-end telemetry system from Control Microsystems. The SmartWIRE was selected in part because of its ease of use and modularity.
Exxon has installed three SmartWIRE end-to-end telemetry systems to control a jet fuel additives shuttle value actuating devices. Each pulse from the control system adds a metered amount of the additive as the jet fuel enters the custody transfer flowmeter and pipeline for shipment direct to the customer. Three SmartWIRE sets were purchased with one as an emergency spare. The SmartWIRE was chosen because of its safety, reliability and cost savings over conventional direct wiring.
SmartWIRE is a universal solution for low cost SCADA, telemetry, remote input/output, cable reduction and personal computer I/O manufactured. SmartWIRE is used to transmit analog and digital process signals from one location to another. It supports point-to-point and distributed multipoint networks, with communication over radios, direct wiring, and telephone lines. SmartWIRE is also compatible with spread spectrum radios, packet radios and radio modems.
SmartWIRE can be used a s a stand-alone telemetry system which transmits and reproduces signals in their original format (e.g. 4-20mA input at one end is reproduced as a 4-20mA output at the other end). SmartWIRE also provides telemetry into a serial port on personal computers, distributed control systems and programmable controllers. So you can access remote I/O directly, without consuming local I/O.
SmartWIRE is simple to install and use. No programming, no computer equipment, and no computer expertise is required.
